Catherine tried to squash her anticipation during the flight but couldn’t. She was oblivious to anything but talking about Patrick; ready to admit that she felt something but not ready to take the leap of faith and claim L-O-V-E. Sheena couldn’t get a word in and she watched in awe as Catherine ate both their meals. When the flight steward cleared their plates, she glanced over to find Sheena asleep, or at least pretending. Catherine decided to give her a break.

When they landed, she shook her friend’s shoulder, “Come on! We’ve landed.”

When they reached the terminal Catherine spied Patrick lounging against the wall. Lips pursed and sunglasses hiding those brooding eyes, she forced herself not to run to him. Dimples appeared in his cheeks as he curled a finger at her.

Sheena groaned and walked to meet a driver who was holding up a sign with their names on it.

Catherine sank into Patrick’s arms, inhaled his scent as if drowning, and raised her lips to his. He breathed over them, “I don’t care if you have a room. You’re staying with me.”

She eagerly nodded, not bothering to tune down her high-wattage smile. The familiar female voice of Miss Seductive, this time squeaky with excitement, wafted to them from the crowd of arriving passengers, “Patrick, there you are!”

He called to Sheena who was talking to the driver, “Kevin’s in the conference room. He’s waiting on you.” He quickly turned back to Catherine and hissed, “Run fast!”

Her eyes widened as he took her hand and guided her quickly through the crowd and out the door toward a waiting cab.

“Who is that?” she hissed at him when they got into the cab.

Client’s daughter. Don’t look at me like that, Catherine.” He frowned and added, “She’s just a kid. Too young to understand some things. Just know that I’m running towards you, my dear Yin.”

When he said that last part in a seductive rumble, she sank against him and relaxed until she smelled alcohol. Frowning, she asked, “Patrick, when was your last drink?”

He sighed. “I left Kevin, who’s always drunk, to come get you.”

She didn’t really want to step inside Kevin’s world but she asked, “Is he having issues at home?”

He puffed an amused bark of air out and said, “Oh, you have no idea. Be warned, Catherine. Don’t step into Kevin’s drama.”

She hadn’t realized that their car had stopped until her door was suddenly pulled open. Sheena tugged at her arm, “I need to talk to you before you get settled.”

“About what?”

“Just give me a minute, Catherine. Then you guys can catch up.”

Patrick kissed her cheek and said, “Go ahead. I’ll be waiting in our room.”

Sheena wouldn’t tell her anything on the elevator ride upstairs. Catherine followed Sheena into her room and asked, “Where’s Kevin?”

“With clients as far as I know. You’re going to protest but I want you to do something, okay?”

When Catherine spotted the pregnancy test in Sheena’s hand, she quickly said, “I’m not pregnant, Sheena. My last period was…” Shock flew over her face, “Oh, shit!”

Sheena thrust the test at her and pointed to the restroom.
